Zionsville Baseball Club Kicks off Season with Opening Day
The Zionsville Baseball Club (ZBC) successfully kicked off its inaugural season with a very exciting opening ceremony at the high school baseball and softball complex on Saturday morning April 14th. The 7u, 8u, and 9u players were all individually introduced and ran onto the field through a tunnel made by the #2 ranked high school team in the state. Varsity coach John Zangrilli welcomed the players and fans and provided everyone with an update on the progress and future plans of Zionsville baseball program. Senior First baseman, Joel Trewartha, who was chosen as a sportsmanship award winner by the IHSAA, spoke to players delivering an excellent message on work ethic, sportsmanship, and having fun. The ceremony was followed by instructional league games between the 7 and 8 year old players.
The Zionsville Baseball Club was started last fall by coach Zangrilli and is dedicated to “feeding” the Zionsville high school baseball program with well-prepared players by identifying and providing a high level of skill development and competition to Zionsville student/athletes. The program is for players 6-14 who attend Zionsville Community Schools. ZBC has 140 players in the program and fields 12 teams for the 2012 season.
